What it is that reminds me of France is the weakness -- meaning watered down or light weight -- of this wine. It reminds me of a French Pinot Noir that I had which had taste, but was delayed by what seemed to be a watering down of the wine (however, you'd be surprised by how many red wines made there have that aspect).
The first taste that you get is raspberry, and it is nice, but it misses the power and complexity that it could have. The color is purple, but more with a scarlet tint to it; must be the result of the waterline not being too tight. There is the slightest hint of mint in the finish, and this probably would go great with a dish that uses mint in it. In fact, the finish lasts for more than thirty seconds, giving you that mint aspect for an extremely long time.
This wine could be so much more, but alas, this might be one of the first releases, and it will hopefully get better over time.
